Central / North Vancouver Island
Chapter President: Joyce Taekema
Our next GNABC Chapter meeting will be held on Monday, June 17 (5-7 pm) in the basement classroom @ Eden Gardens.
We will feature a presentation by Laura Braun, RN, BScN, GNC(C), CAPP, CRT, entitled, “Developing a Growth Mindset – Key for Resilience.” (Flyer attached below for posting.)
Laura will be building upon the resilience session she did at our January session and speak to the growth mindset, which is key for resilience. She’ll talk about strategies for shifting from a Fixed/Judger Mindset to a Growth/Learner Mindset. This skill is especially helpful in our working environments when navigating through team dynamics and in our personal lives when trying to embrace compassion and curiosity.
Laura has been in the nursing profession for over 26 years. She started off her career as a Licenced Practical Nurse working in a small rural hospital in Southern Manitoba. Her desire to broaden her horizons saw her finishing her diploma RN and later Baccalaureate of Nursing from the University of Victoria. Laura considers herself extremely fortunate to have a career that offers her a number of exciting opportunities.
She worked in the Community as well as Acute Care. She later became an educator and Clinical Coordinator on Floor One at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH). She’s taught in the RCA and LPN programs in both private and public colleges and has been a nursing consultant for Northern Health Authority where she held a number of manager/site administrator positions. Laura was also the Director of Care for a large senior’s community in Parksville before working with a National Specialty Pharmacy.
Her latest endeavor; Elev8 Healthcare, provides clinical and leadership support to organizations looking to maximize their healthcare outcomes.
In the past year, Laura has been further certified in Applied Positive Psychology and is now a Certified Resilience Trainer. Laura is dedicated to helping individuals and organizations thrive through ‘tough times’ using the science of positive psychology.
